Once we are ready to begin your treatment, the medication is administered into the IV fluids, where it travels directly into your bloodstream. IV sedatives take effect almost immediately, and you feel almost instantly relaxed and comfortable. This type of sedation makes you feel drowsy, although you are still conscious. Many patients report temporary amnesia, where they are unable to recall parts, or any, of their procedure.

However, if you take certain medications, you should continue to take them as directed. In this case, a small amount of water is permitted to help you swallow your medication. Following these instructions is important for ensuring your safety during treatment. If they are not followed, you may need to be rescheduled.

Throughout the duration of your treatment, your vitals are monitored by a trained professional. We can easily and quickly adjust your sedation as needed as your treatment is performed. After the completion of your procedure, the needle is removed. You remain in the office for a set period, which allows us to monitor you for a while. Because the effects of IV sedation can linger for several hours, you will need to have someone to drive you home.
