We decided to offer various dental specialty services at one of our conveniently located offices. The specialties that we offer are periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery. EndodonticsAn Endodontists specialize in the techniques and procedures to save badly damaged teeth. One of the commonly performed procedures is a Root canal. Root canal treatments are the main specialty of an endodontist. Which includes a root canal retreatment when a root canal fails. Endodontists will also perform an Apicoectomy (Apico), which is the removal of the root tip or Apex if it becomes infected. With the canal system of a tooth being so complex, if the infection spreads to other canals, a periapical surgery is needed. A periapical surgery is a delicate procedure that requires a dental microscope in order to remove all of the infected tissue and allowing the tooth to heal properly and be restored. A root canal may be needed when a tooth receives physical trauma which damages the pulp, or a deep infection from a cavity. Endodontists remove the damaged parts of the tooth. Depending on how badly damaged the tooth is and how much of the tooth can be saved they may use a filling to finish the root canal treatment. Finally, they will place a permanent crown to restore both function and aesthetics to your smile. We know that you may be nervous or fearful when you hear the term "root canal". However, with all the advances in modern dentistry and our extensive training, you do not need to worry. You may not realize how important the gums are to having a happy and healthy mouth. Without proper oral hygiene your gums will eventually develop periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontist are also highly skilled in the placement of dental implants. At Cameo Dental Specialists our Periodontist may use advanced technologies and techniques, including surgical stents to ensure optimal placement of dental implants. When periodontal disease has developed, a scaling and root planing treatment is needed to give a deep clean. In some cases the gums may start to recede and a gingival recession treatment or tissue grafts may be necessary.
