One of our favorite oral surgery offerings is facial cosmetics.

Services provided through facial cosmetics include:
•  jaw surgery
•  chin surgery
•  ear surgery
•  eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty)
•  face lifts
•  forehead lifts
•  botox injections
•  injectable dermal fillers.

Two of the most common cosmetic surgeries we provide here at Cameo Dental Specialists include Botox and injectable dermal fillers.

Botox

Your skin is the largest organ of your body. Because it is on the outside, it is exposed to everything that the environment has to throw at you. The skin on your face is particularly vulnerable, not often covered like other areas. Your skin is exposed to cold temperatures, dry air, harsh sun, and so much more. In addition to these factors, your skin also has to deal with the natural aging process. Environmental factors can cause you to age faster, leading to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When you look older than your actual age, you may quickly find yourself self-conscious.

How Botox Works

Botox is a treatment that is injected directly into the skin at targeted areas in the face. Once injected the liquid works to block signals sent by the nerves that cause different muscles to contract. With these signals blocked, the muscles that have caused the lines and wrinkles to form cannot contract. Over time, the skin begins to smooth out, and the appearance of these unwanted lines begins to fade away.

The process for getting Botox injections is fairly quick, taking only about 20 minutes of your time. We use fine-tipped needles to deliver the Botox into your skin. There is no need for local anesthetics. Patients typically report minimal discomfort during injections, such as a slight pinch when the needle is first inserted. Bruising is common at injection sites but typically dissipates within two days. You can generally expect to see the full results of your treatment within three to seven days.

Botox can help to alleviate the symptoms of bruxism and temporomandibular (TMJ) disorder, which can greatly increase your comfort and quality of life.

Dermal Fillers

We provide dermal fillers for lip enhancements, the cheeks, and correction and removal of smile lines and laugh lines. Dermal fillers are often called “liquid facelifts” because of how the procedure is done. Dermal fillers are not the same as cosmetic surgery. You therefore do not have to undergo surgery and worry about long recovery times. Dermal fillers do not provide permanent results; however, you can have the process repeated as desired in order to maintain the results you wish.

Other popular facial cosmetic procedures include jaw surgery and blepharoplasty.

Jaw Surgery

Jaw surgery, also called orthognathic surgery, is often used if you are faced with dental or skeletal issues that cannot be corrected with any other treatments. It is a broad term that refers to some different procedures that are used to fix more difficult or complex issues. Jaw surgery can help to restore your oral health, your appearance, and your overall quality of life.

Do I Need Jaw Surgery?

Your mouth, including your jaw, is responsible for numerous essential daily functions. When your jaw, and the surrounding areas, are faced with an injury or another issue, the functions of your mouth are significantly impacted. Suddenly, basic functions like eating and speaking become more difficult, if not impossible. You may find it difficult even to open your mouth. When the health of your jaw is suffering, we may try a variety of different treatments. If none of these treatments prove effective, oral surgery may be recommended.

Jaw surgery may be used for issues such as:
•  Facial trauma.
•  Congenital defects, including cleft palates.
•  Serious alignment issues such as overbites or underbites that may not be effectively treated with orthodontic procedures.
•  Temporomandibular joint disorder that has not responded to less invasive treatments.
•  Obstructive sleep apnea.
•  Facial imbalances.
•  You experience chronic mouth breathing.

Blepharoplasty

As you age, your body goes through many changes. Your skin begins to lose elasticity and muscles begin to weaken. This can lead to sagging. One area this occurs is at the eyelids. Sagging skin causes your eyelids to become droopy. Droopy eyelids can significantly impact your facial appearance, causing you to appear tired or bored all of the time. They can impact your confidence. They can also impact your vision, making it harder to see. At Cameo Dental Specialists, we can remove and tighten excess skin on the eyelids, improving your appearance and your vision, with a blepharoplasty.

What is a Blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that is performed to remove and tighten excess skin to reduce eyelid sagging. In some cases, muscle and fat may also be removed as well to provide the best results. Blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both.

Cosmetic vs Functional Blepharoplasty

Sagging eyelids, both upper and lower, are a common effect of getting older. While completely natural, it can be quite irritating. Not only does it add extra years to your appearance, but sagging eyelids can also give you the appearance of constant boredom or exhaustion. As the skin sags and stretches, the fat pockets around your eyes can become more prominent and bulge. A cosmetic blepharoplasty is performed to improve your appearance rather than being medically necessary.

In some cases, sagging eyelids do more than just affect your facial appearance. If the skin sags low enough, it can impair your vision, making it much more difficult to see. Wearing glasses or contacts can become more difficult. Sagging eyelids can also cause skin irritation as well as discomfort from muscle strain. In these cases, a functional blepharoplasty may be recommended. The procedures are the same, but a functional blepharoplasty is recommended for medical reasons. While the procedure provides cosmetic benefits, it is mainly performed to improve your quality of life.
