Ringing in Your Ears Could Come from Issues with Your JawMany of us suffer from ringing in our ears from time to time. However, if it becomes constant, you may need to come and see us. Ringing in your ears may not be a problem with your ears at all.

Instead, it may point to a problem with your jaw. If you are suffering from ringing in your ears, we have some information for you about jaw issues and ringing in your ears.

Why Do Your Ears Ring?

Ringing in your ears, called tinnitus, has several causes. Often, it can signal a hearing loss. When you lose the tiny hairs in your inner ear by the cochlea, you can have ringing in your ears. However, there are other reasons you may be suffering from ringing in your ears. Ear infections can lead to ringing in your ears. You may also have ringing in your ears from a sinus infection.

Jaw Problems and Ringing in Your Ears

Another problem that can cause ringing in your ears originates in your jaw not your ears. You have two jaw joints which are called temporomandibular joints, on either side of your jaw. The joint functions as a sliding hinge. Your upper jaw slides in and out of your lower jaw. The jaw joint is cushioned by a disk of fibers. When that disc becomes inflamed, that can cause significant jaw problems. Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) can also cause trouble with opening and closing your jaw, tooth pain, sinus pain, jaw pain and ear pain.

If you are having ear pain, you can put ice on your jaw joint. You can also take anti-inflammatories to help reduce your jaw pain. If you are having ear pain and ringing in your ears, you need to come and see us. We can give you recommendations and suggestions to help with your jaws and ringing in your ears.
