![]() The Importance of NutritionAfter oral surgery, you need to provide the body with the minerals and nutrients it needs to help heal. You need to make sure you are eating enough food to keep up your strength and that you are not eating foods that will cause damage. You do not want to turn to foods that give your body little of what it needs. There are many foods that provide your body with important vitamins and minerals. You also want foods that are high in antioxidants that can help with the healing process. The right foods can make all the difference after oral surgery. What to Eat Immediately after the oral surgery, you need to turn to foods that are easy to eat. This often means a liquid diet. Smoothies and yogurt are two of the foods that are easy to eat and that will give you the vitamins and minerals your body wants. Soups and broths are also a good choice immediately after the surgery. Over the course of the next few days, you can add other softer foods including scrambled eggs and oatmeal. Adding cheese to mashed potatoes provides both flavor and something good to eat. As the oral surgery site heals, you can start to add foods that are a little more solid. You should not try to rush to get back to a normal diet. You need to give your mouth time to heal after oral surgery. You should also not stick with a soft food diet indefinitely. That can cause more problems that you would want to deal with.
