Dr. Dwayne Karateew
Dr. Karateew comes to Cameo from Vancouver, Canada, where he maintained a twenty-year private practice focused on periodontics, prosthodontics, and implant centered dentistry. He has placed or restored over 7,000 dental implants.
Dr. Karateew completed dental school at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery (now the College of Dental Medicine) in New York City. This was followed by Certificates in both periodontics and fixed prosthodontics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Karateew is a clinical associate professor and director of the Advanced Education in Periodontology (PG Residency), UIC College of Dentistry in Chicago. At UIC he is involved in clinical research and the education of postgraduate periodontology residents.
Dental CareerDr. Karateew is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Surgery. He has written a large number of clinically relevant articles, delivered numerous presentations in more than 20 countries - primarily in implant dentistry - and has served in the education of over 10,000 dentists. Dr. Karateew also served as medical editor for a publication on 3D imaging for dental applications titled Specialty Imaging: Dental Implants, Tamimi (Amirsys Publishing). He recently published his own reference book, Implant Aesthetics (Springer Publishing, Berlin) on implant dentistry. Dr. Karateew has served on editorial boards for multiple dental journals, and is a former board member on the DENTSPLY International CE Board. He currently serves as chairman of the Charitable Grants Committee of the Academy of Osseointegration.
Interests and PhilanthropyDr. Karateew and his wife, Dr. Mitra Sadrameli (oral and maxillofacial radiologist enjoy exploring Chicago, its history and architecture. Dr. Karateew enjoys fly fishing, downhill skiing, golfing and gourmet cooking.
