All-On-4® Treatment Concept
Traditionally, when you lost your teeth, your options were limited. If you lost all of your teeth, your only choice was dentures. While dentures have come a long way over the years, they still have many disadvantages. Dentures can slip out of place, leading to embarrassment, and painful sores. They require a significant amount of daily maintenance. Moreover, because your jawbone changes shape (due to bone resorption following tooth loss), your dentures will no longer fit properly after a period, and you will need to be refitted for a new set. With the development of dental implants, many of these issues are resolved. However, implants require that you have sufficient bone mass in the jaw. At Cameo Dental Specialists, we offer the All-on-4® Treatment Concept.
Dental ImplantsDental implants are a revolutionary treatment option for replacing missing teeth. They consist of small, titanium rods that are surgically inserted into your jawbone. The success of implants relies on osseointegration or the fusion of the bone to the rods. Once complete, the rods imitate the roots of your natural teeth, providing support for your replacement teeth.
What is the All-on-4® Treatment Concept?Implants can be used to replace any number of missing teeth. The number of implants used depends upon several factors, such as how many teeth are being replaced. Unlike other replacement options, they require surgery, but the benefits far outweigh the surgical procedure. When you are missing all of your teeth, an implant supported denture typically is supported by 6 to 8 implants. However, because the implants rely on the strength of your jawbone, having insufficient bone mass can lead to implant failure. If even one implant fails, your entire implant supported denture can fail.
The All-on-4® Treatment Concept is designed for those who are lacking the necessary bone mass to support the 6 to 8 dental implants. Instead, as the name suggests, the All-on-4® Treatment Concept uses four strategically placed dental implants to support your implant supported a denture. Two of the implants are placed at the front of the jaw and are inserted vertically. This area of the jaw naturally has more bone mass. The other two implants are placed at the back of the jaw, one on each side. The implants are inserted at a 45-degree angle, providing maximum contact with the jawbone while avoiding the sinus cavity. With this implant placement, your implant supported denture gives maximum stability.
